A Crypto Wallet Brand Found a Fun Way to Mock the ‘Big Bank Bureaucracy’ in Its First Ads

Agency TBWA\Paris has created a trio of quirky ads for cryptocurrency wallet brand Ledger—showing a man playing himself as well as a bank manager and an assistant in a campaign that takes aim at “big bank bureaucracy.”

The three spots mark the first campaign for the French tech brand, which launched in 2014 and develops hardware that it says securely stores crypto assets including Bitcoin and enables people to trade them.

The ads show a man having a meeting at a bank, where he plays all of the characters. Dressed only in underwear, he flits between acting out different characters represented by freestanding cut-outs, which he simply slots his face into with comic effect.

In the first spot, he begins as the customer before hot-footing across the table to act as the bank manager, then the bank manager’s female colleague, and then his assistant, who offers him coffee—which he duly accepts.

In the second film, he acts out a scenario where the bank manager is embarrassed, and more than a little annoyed, when his colleague gets a phone call mid-meeting.

And in the third, a smarmy looking bank manager (played by the same character, of course) convinces him to trust his advice without reading all the paperwork, which the customer naively accepts.

The campaign promotes the brand’s Nano ewallet and Ledger Live Application and is designed, TBWA\Paris said, to humorously shine a light on how the current financial system makes customers rely on intermediaries, and how their money is managed by the bank, not them.

The agency described the work as “a cheeky way to thumb one’s nose at big bank bureaucracy” while presenting Ledger as capable of doing “everything” a bank can, minus the intermediaries.
