Charter Communications, the parent company of Orlando, Florida’s Spectrum 13, is facing a lawsuit in the death of reporter Dylan Lyons.
Lyons, 24, and T’Yonna Major, 9, both died on February 22, 2023, after Orange County deputies said they were shot by Keith Moses.
The News 13 reporter and the third grader were shot within minutes of each other. Moses is accused of shooting five people over a five hour span.
“The lawsuit highlights and alleges systemic failures within Charter Communications, outlining and alleging a broad pattern of conscious disregard for the lives of journalists, such as Dylan Lyons,” a press release about the lawsuit said from NeJame Law. “This groundbreaking lawsuit alleges that through indifference, recklessness, or gross negligence, Charter Communications’ actions contributed to the death of Dylan Lyons.”

“Dylan’s murder was an unforeseeable and horrible tragedy. We hope that Keith Moses, who has been charged, will soon be brought to justice for the murder of Dylan and the others that day. With regards to these specific allegations, Dylan was the victim of a senseless act of violence. The claims against Spectrum News are unfounded and we will seek to have them dismissed.”

NeJame Law said it will also sue the Orange County Sheriff’s Office “alleging civil rights violations and wrongful death.”
