Ferrari Hypersail: design, innovation and performance redefine ocean sailing
At Milan Design Week 2026, Ferrari steps beyond the boundaries of automotive design and into the open ocean, unveiling the livery of its ambitious Hypersail project—a 100-foot flying monohull that redefines the relationship between performance, innovation, and aesthetics.
More than a vessel, Hypersail represents a new frontier. Conceived as an open innovation platform, the project brings together Ferrari’s engineering expertise, the vision of the Ferrari Design Studio led by Flavio Manzoni, and the naval architecture of Guillaume Verdier. The result is not simply a sailing yacht, but a synthesis of disciplines where design becomes a direct expression of performance.

In Hypersail, form is never decorative. Every line, surface, and volume is shaped by the interaction between wind, water, and speed. The silhouette itself echoes the purity of Ferrari’s most iconic cars, such as the Monza SP1 and SP2, while references to the Hypercar 499P subtly emerge in the graphic architecture of the deck. This is a project where automotive DNA is not translated but transformed into a new language for the sea.
What makes Hypersail particularly compelling is its technological ambition. The vessel is built around a foiling system, allowing it to “fly” above the water, drastically reducing drag and maximizing efficiency. This is supported by an advanced control system derived from Ferrari’s automotive expertise, combined with renewable energy sources including solar, wind, and kinetic energy.
Even the integration of solar panels reflects this philosophy. Seamlessly embedded into the hull and deck, they are not an afterthought but part of the design itself—walkable, functional, and engineered to adapt to the vessel’s exposure to sunlight during navigation.
The visual identity of Hypersail is equally symbolic. Ferrari’s iconic Giallo Fly takes center stage, representing what the brand defines as its “second soul.” Historically linked to Ferrari’s heritage, the yellow is paired with the raw grey of carbon fiber—introduced here as “Grigio Hypersail”—creating a striking contrast between tradition and cutting-edge materials.

This interplay of colors is not merely aesthetic. It reflects the deeper narrative of the project: a continuous dialogue between legacy and experimentation. From the hull to the sail—where Ferrari’s elongated “F” logo reinforces a strong visual identity—every detail contributes to a cohesive and recognizable language.
During Milan Design Week, Hypersail is presented through an immersive exhibition at the Ferrari Flagship Store, alongside a lighthouse-inspired installation on the HIGHLINE Milano terrace overlooking Piazza del Duomo. This dual presence reinforces the project’s symbolic role—not just as a technological achievement, but as a cultural statement about the future of design.
With Hypersail, Ferrari is not simply entering the world of sailing. It is redefining it, applying its relentless pursuit of performance to an environment as unpredictable as the ocean. The result is a project that feels both radical and inevitable—a natural evolution of Ferrari’s identity beyond the road.
