#FridayFive with Shillington Design Teacher George Simkin
Inspiration can come from anywhere. So, on the first Friday of each month, we’re sharing some of our Shillington team’s favourite things from the past four weeks. This month, Shillington London Teacher George Simkin shares what was on his radar in May.
The New York Times Magazine have an online archive of all their covers—which is a great resource for editorial design and really shows how powerful the magazine is.
Considered the greatest graphic novel in the history of the medium, the multi award-winning story chronicles the fall from grace of a group of superheroes plagued by all-too-human failings. I have read this twice but have been back to it again and again. Alan Moore and his multi-layered stories was way ahead of its time. Lots of themes in the graphic novel also very much reflect on mankind’s current situation.
All the cinemas are closed, but we can still enjoy the power of film. The Criterion Collection is an incredible platform for some of the greatest stories every told on film. This is from on of my favourite movies, ‘Paris, Texas’ by Wim Wenders.
No need to introduce Four Tet to most people, but he has just launched his new album Sixteen Oceans and its bliss. He has also created a playlist on Spotify of pretty much everything he has ever released—hours and hours of pure joy in your earholes.
Mr. Bingo is not a stranger to most people. He did this for the Amazing people of the NHS. 100% proceeds went to the NHS and this was just for people who risk their lives everyday working in the U.K. Especially like times like these, we need this type of humour even more. I fucking love the NHS and fucking love Mr. Bingo.
Take a look back at what’s been inspiring our team over the last two years! And for some drool-worthy visuals from our Shillington students, read 16 handmade album covers and 14 app designs.
