Here Are the Morning News Ratings for the 2024-2025 TV Season

ABC News’ Good Morning America captured the 2024-2025 season ratings crown in total viewers, but it did so by a slim margin, besting NBC News’ Today by just 40,000 additional viewers.

This was GMA’s 13th consecutive year finishing the season as the most-watched morning newscast.

Meanwhile, Today took the top spot in the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demo for the just concluded season.

According to Nielsen Media Research, GMA had 2.644 million total viewers and 470,000 A25-54 viewers for the 2024-2025 season. When comparing its performance to the 2023-2024 season, GMA was down -6% in total viewers and -10% in the demo.

Today averaged 2.604 million total viewers and 626,000 A25-54 viewers for the just-concluded season. The newscast was down -5% in total viewers and -6% in the demo compared to 2024. It recorded the smallest viewership erosion among the three newscasts for the season.

Week of September 15

Disney’s decision to temporarily sideline Jimmy Kimmel did not severely affect ABC News’ Good Morning America performance, as it remained the top show in total viewers for the just-concluded week.

However, the gap between it and NBC News’ Today shrank to a difference of 74,000 total viewers for the week of September 15. Another bright spot for Today was that it was the only morning show to record a week-to-week gain in either of the measured categories.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.590 million total viewers and 483,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of September 15. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show was down by -3% and -1%. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (Sept. 16), GMA was up in total viewers by +3% and +15% in the demo—it was the only morning show with gains in this year-to-year comparison.

Today finished in second place in total viewers, but it maintained its No. 1 status in the demo with 2.516 million and 584,000 viewers, respectively, for the just-concluded week. The broadcast experienced a decline of -1% in total viewers but saw a +1% lift in the A25-54 demo compared to the previous week. Third Quarter 2025

ABC News’ Good Morning America solidified its first-place position in total viewers, and Today continued to retain its top position in the Adults 25-54 demo during the third quarter of the year.

But the gap between GMA and Today in the demo was not as vast as in previous quarters, with 83,000 viewers separating the two broadcasts.

All three morning shows experienced quarter-to-quarter declines in both measured categories despite the period featuring news stories like the murders of the Minnesota lawmakers, the ICE protests in Los Angeles, the Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin summit in Alaska, and the catastrophic flooding in central Texas and Milwaukee.

According to the most recent data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.594 million total viewers and 460,000 viewers in the A25-54 demographic for the just-concluded quarter. Compared to the second quarter, GMA was down -3% in total viewers and -1% in the demo. When looking at the same quarterly period in 2024, GMA was down in total viewers by -8% and -12% in the demo, respectively.

NBC News’ Today was in second place in total viewers and remained the No. 1 show in the A25-54 demo with 2.444 million viewers and 543,000 viewers, respectively, for Q3 2025. Its performance versus the second quarter saw NBC News’ morning show fall by -3% in total viewers and -6% in the demo. Compared to the same quarterly period in 2024, it was down by -11% in total viewers and -18% in the demo.

CBS Mornings ranked third in total viewers and A25-54 during Q3 2025. It had 1.789 million total viewers and 300,000 viewers in the demo.
