Here’s How the News Networks Are Covering Hispanic Heritage Month
The 2024 edition of Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off on Sept. 15 for a monthlong celebration of America’s vibrant Hispanic and Latino and Latine communities. Appropriately, the major news outlets have announced themed programming unfolding from now through Oct. 15, ranging from primetime specials to special segments on popular shows.
Here’s our network-by-network viewing guide to Hispanic Heritage Month coverage. (All times ET.)
ABC News
- Correspondent John Quiñones speaks with some of entertainment industry’s biggest Latino stars in Latinos in Hollywood: Owning Our Destiny. Premiering on ABC on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. and streaming the next day on Hulu, the one-hour special features interviews with such celebrities as Eva Longoria, John Leguizamo, Gina Torres, Xochitl Gomez and Rita Moreno, as well as some of the prominent behind the scenes moves and shakers in La La Land. An audio version of the special will also be available thorough ABC News Audio.
- Good Morning America, The View and GMA3 will spotlight notable Hispanic and Latin American creatives, activists and entrepreneurs, including Nadine Ramos, Luis Miranda and Pepe Aguilar. GMA also plans to send one lucky family on a Walt Disney World vacation to cap off the month.
- Nightline and This Week with George Stephanopoulos will feature election-themed segments spotlighting Latino voter issues. That subject will also be covered by the ABC News Live and ABC News Digital teams, along with other hot button topics like immigration, health and the environment.
NBCUniversal News Group
- In addition to her ABC News appearance, Longoria will also drop by the NBC News morning show Today to talk about Latino and Latine small business ownership. NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt has an interview with ballerina Evelyn Cisneros-Legate as well as a report about The Blackwell School national historic site.
- On the cable side, CNBC will feature a range of business segments focused on the Hispanic and Latino community including Tu Dinero Es Tu Futuro. Meanwhile, MSNBC and Telemundo will spotlight reporting from Paola Ramos about how the 2024 election is unfolding on the ground in Arizona. (See below for additional Telemundo programming.)
- In the digital and streaming realms, NBC News Now will incorporate Latino stories into Top Story as part of Tom Llamas‘ ongoing series, The Americas. NBCNews.com’s Latino vertical NBC Latino has published its annual Latino 10 list ranking the accomplishments of such notable figures as Liza Colón-Zayas and Kenny Luna.
NewsNation
- Morning in America anchor Markie Martin will feature special Hispanic Heritage Month coverage throughout the month.
Scripps News
- Morning Rush will feature daily stories focused on Hispanic and Latino culture, including interviews with Hispanic Heritage Foundation CEO Jose Antonio Tijerino and actress Summer Rose Castillo. Additional cultural stories will air on Thursdays between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.
- A half-hour celebratory special will premiere on Oct. 10 at 8:30 p.m. and re-air on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
Telemundo
- In partnership with NBC Universal, the Spanish-language network has launched a new bilingual campaign Celebrating All That We Are that will incorporate social media spots featuring such individuals as Mario Lopez, Alyssa Thompson and Julio Vaqueiro.
- Fresh digital content planned for the next month includes the new series Como se Dice, as well as extensions of La Mesa Caliente and Al Rojo Vivo.
- Telemundo Deportes plans to spotlight the achievements of Hispanic and Latinx athletes, including those who recently participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
