Here’s the Roundup for the Week Ending October 11

Happy Friday to all who celebrate. In this week’s roundup of stories we didn’t post for one reason or another, we see the usual to and fro of local talent. We also see that an Atlanta artist is paying tribute to Jovita Moore, who died from brain cancer in 2021 and a GoFundMe has been set up for WOIO reporter Winnie Dortch, who is recovering from a gunshot.

Legendary news anchor Jack Kane passed away Tuesday night, October 8, 2024. He was 77 years old. Kane was with WOWK-TV from 1999 to 2020. Before coming to WOWK, he was a reporter and anchor for WCHS-TV and an evening news anchor for WTAP-TV in Parkersburg. Click here for the story.

Local stations are continuing to push to reclaim the 10 p.m. hour from broadcast networks, a top industry exec said Wednesday. Mike Hayes, President of Hearst Television, was asked during a panel Wednesday at the Nab Show New York about the state of discussions about 10 p.m., a topic that gained wide attention in 2022. Raleigh, N.C. station WTVD said it was an emotional Sunday morning inside the Raleigh Eyewitness News Center. Beloved weekend anchor Anthony Wilson signed off on the weekend morning show for the final time – thanking his family, colleagues, and the ABC11 viewers. Click here for more.

A graphic designer in Atlanta is using his skills to honor a deceased member of the city’s community. John-Paul Moore’s latest work pays tribute to late WSB news anchor Jovita Moore (pictured) on her 57th birthday.  The local artist told Moore’s former work home, WSB-TV, that his art does more than paint a picture. Instead, he hopes to use his gifts to tell that person’s story. Click here for the story.

On October 7, 2024, Winnie Dortch was involved in a domestic violence incident in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was a reporter with WOIO 19 News.
