Here’s What the New CBS Evening News Will Look Like
Viewers tuning into Monday’s edition of the CBS Evening News will be greeted by a reimagined broadcast that returns to the newscast’s New York roots—with a new ensemble team of journalists.
In place of Norah O’Donnell, John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois will be co-anchoring the Evening News out of the famed Studio 47 within CBS News’ Manhattan HQ.
The duo will joined by Margaret Brennan from Washington, D.C., and Lonnie Quinn, the chief weathercaster. Heading up the new Evening News squad is 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens, who will be the show’s supervising producer, while Guy Campanile is the executive producer.
A preview of the reimagined newscast aired during halftime on Sunday’s AFC Championship game on CBS. Dickerson and Dubois also appeared on Monday’s edition of CBS Mornings to talk about the anticipated relaunch

“People have the news all day in their pockets, and we’re not trying to compete with that,” Dickerson said in an interview with People Magazine. “What we can share is the perspective that comes from the deep reporting that our correspondents do.”
“John and I will debrief our correspondents each night,” DuBois added. “You’ll get context and insight. It will feel like people you know describing incredible things that they just witnessed. I’m excited to give our viewers nuggets of info that they won’t get anywhere else.”
The new Evening News will be guided by storytelling and strong writing that takes a deeper dive into the day’s events. Viewers should expect to see some 60 Minutes DNA infused into those 30 minutes, as well taking advantage of the network’s correspondents and affiliates.
The CBS Evening News is leaving Washington, D.C.—where O’Donnell anchored for the past five years—as President Donald Trump returns to the White House with a newsworthy second-term agenda.
People familiar with the show indicate that nothing has changed regarding its coverage of the nation’s capital, as Brennan will spearhead coverage alongside D.C. bureau correspondents. The newscast will also explore how the decisions made within the halls of power play out in America’s communities.
Meanwhile, Dickerson and DuBois will bring their own energy and skill to big stories and also contribute field reporting and interviews. Quinn will provide the weather using CBS News’ “giant green bathtub” technology.
The CBS Evening News has gone through numerous reinventions over the years, hoping each version will lift the newscast out of its third-place ranking in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo.
The network had 14 years of stability with Dan Rather at the helm, but since his departure in 2005, it has seen a revolving door of anchors, including Bob Schieffer, Katie Couric, Scott Pelley, Jeff Glor, and O’Donnell.

This new ensemble team of journalists will seek to generate attention for the reimagined news program. Time will tell if this version resonates with viewers and enable CBS News to catch up with NBC News and ABC News’ evening broadcasts.
