How News Outlets Are Covering President Trump’s State of the Union Address

President Donald Trump is set to deliver his fourth State of the Union Address on Tuesday, Feb. 24. This will be the first SOTU address of his second term, where he is expected to recount the accomplishments of his first year as well as set his agenda for the coming year—which will include the midterm elections in November. 

Trump’s address will be followed by the Democratic response from Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger.

The various news networks are providing detailed coverage of the address and response ahead of a consequential election season. All times are Eastern.

ABC News

  • David Muir will lead coverage from Washington D.C., joined by Linsey Davis, Mary Bruce, Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Pierre Thomas, Rachel Scott, and Jay O’Brien. Analysts include contributors Donna Brazile, Chris Christie, and former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy.  
  • ABC News Live will have comprehensive coverage, with Kyra Phillips anchoring a special pre-show starting at 8 p.m., followed by network coverage of the SOTU. Davis will anchor the post-show from 11 p.m. to midnight.

BBC News

  • Special programming will run from 8 p.m. to midnight, anchored by chief presenters Sumi Somaskanda and Caitriona Perry live from Washington. They will also be joined by a panel of former lawmakers and political strategists to break down the major moments in the speech, providing context and analysis. 

C-SPAN

  • Live coverage begins at 7 p.m., hosted by Peter Slen, with news updates from Greta Brawner. Reporters, including The New York Post’s Marisa Schultz, Politico’s Alex Gangitano, Axios’ Alex Isenstadt, and Spectrum News’ Taylor Popielarz, will also be part of the coverage. 
  • On C-SPAN2, coverage begins with a simulcast of the 7 p.m. preview, transitioning to Sights and Sounds from the House chamber at 8:45 p.m. John McArdle will anchor coverage from Statuary Hall after the address.

CNBC

  • The CNBC.com Politics team will run a live blog during the State of the Union. The team will also have pre- and post-SOTU coverage.

CNN

  • The network’s live coverage kicks off at 8 p.m. ET, led by Jake Tapper anchoring from Washington and Anderson Cooper from New York City. 
  • They will be joined by Kaitlan Collins, Kasie Hunt, Abby Phillip, John King, and the network’s political experts. Dana Bash and Manu Raju will report live from the Capitol, Kristen Holmes will report from the White House, David Chalian will present CNN’s instant poll results, and Daniel Dale will provide live fact-checks. 

Fox News

  • Beginning at 8:50 p.m., Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will lead the network’s SOTU coverage. The broadcast will also feature analysis from Dana Perino, Harold Ford Jr., Laura Ingraham, Brit Hume, and Larry Kudlow. Jacqui Heinrich and Bill Melugin will be live from the White House and the Capitol, respectively. 
  • Sean Hannity will host a special edition of Hannity live from the Capitol at 11 p.m., followed by Fox News @ Night with Trace Gallagher airing from 12 to 1 a.m. Meanwhile, FBN will simulcast FNC’s special coverage of the address, starting at 9 p.m.

MS NOW

  • MS NOW’s live coverage begins at 7 p.m., led by Rachel Maddow, who will be joined by Nicolle Wallace, Ari Melber, Chris Hayes, Lawrence O’Donnell, Stephanie Ruhle, Jen Psaki, Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, Alicia Menendez, and Ali Velshi, who will break down the State of the Union by the numbers, diving into current polling, the state of the economy, and how the country is feeling.  
  • At 12 a.m. ET, Sanders Townsend, Steele, and Menendez will continue special coverage, offering analysis of the biggest moments from President Trump’s remarks and the Democratic response.

NBC News

  • Beginning at 9 p.m., Tom Llamas will anchor special coverage joined by Kristen Welker, Hallie Jackson, Peter Alexander, and Ryan Nobles
  • Over at NBC News Now, Jackson will anchor coverage as the President makes his way to the Capitol from 8 p.m. The streaming network will simulcast NBC News’ coverage at 9 with Welker anchoring live post-speech analysis at 11 p.m., joined by key political reporters, analysts, and voices in the Democratic and Republican parties.

Newsmax

  • Greta Van Susteren and Rob Finnerty will kick off SOTU coverage as co-anchors at 8 p.m. Prior to that, Carl Higbie will preview the address on Frontline at 6 p.m. and Rob Schmitt on Rob Schmitt Tonight at 7 p.m.  

NewsNation

  • The network will present special editions of The Hill at 6 p.m., Elizabeth Vargas Reports at 7 p.m, and Cuomo at 8 p.m.
  • Beginning at 9 p.m. ET, chief Washington anchor Leland Vittert will present a special three-hour broadcast entitled Special Report: State of the Union. The live report will feature analysis and commentary from political editor Chris Stirewalt, Katie Pavlich, Jesse Weber, Kellie Meyer, and Joe Khalil, among other political experts and guests. 

PBS News

  • Live special coverage will begin at 9 p.m., co-anchored by Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett. Coverage will include reporting from Capitol Hill correspondent Lisa Desjardins and White House correspondent Liz Landers. 
  • Analysis will be provided by Cook Political Report editor in chief Amy Walter, Republican strategist Kevin Madden, Democratic strategist Faiz Shakir, and former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley.

Scripps News

  • Scripps News anchors Alisyn Camerota and Del Walters will co-anchor live coverage beginning at 8 p.m. from outside the U.S. Capitol. 
  • Special coverage begins at 6 p.m. with The Danny Moses Show: State of the Union Special, followed by The State of Our Union: A Scripps News Group Special Report at 7 p.m.

Spectrum News

  • The network’s coverage begins at 8:55 p.m. led by Errol Louis alongside Josh Robin, Taylor Popielarz from the Capitol, Holly Gregory from Florida, and Jason Fechner from Wisconsin for regional perspectives.
  • Additionally, Spectrum Noticias’ coverage will be hosted by Philip Klint and Isabel Morales.

Telemundo

  • Julio Vaqueiro will lead coverage from Washington beginning at 8:50 pm. Coverage will include in-depth reporting and analysis from Cristina Londoño, Arantxa Loizaga, and a panel of experts.
  • There will also be reaction from Latino voters and fact checks by T Verifica, Noticias Telemundo’s fact-checking platform. 

N+ Univision

  • The network will present bi-national (U.S. and Mexico), comprehensive cross-platform coverage as part of N+ Univision Presenta: Estado de la Unión, led by Ilia Calderón and Enrique Acevedo from the Capitol in Washington beginning at 8 p.m.
  • SOTU preview will be led by Luis Carlos Vélez and Fernanda Caso on the streaming platform ViX and N+ Univision Digital. Correspondents on the ground include Claudia Uceda from Capitol Hill, Ariel Moutsatsos from the White House, and Pedro Rojas.
