Infinite Reality Boosts Commerce Capabilities With Acquisition of Zappar for $45M
Extended reality firm Infinite Reality is acquiring extended reality creative shop Zappar for $45 million.
Infinite Reality bills itself as an “innovation company” that uses artificial intelligence, spatial computing, and other immersive technologies to power its solutions for commerce, community, and digital media.
Infinite Reality said its acquisition of Zappar better positions it to reshape its commerce and digital media experiences.
“Zappar’s strong European presence and partnerships with global brands align perfectly with our expansion strategy,” Infinite Reality co-founder and chief business officer Amish Shah said. “By integrating their expertise into our portfolio, we’re creating a powerhouse of immersive technology that spans continents and industries.”
Infinite Reality closed a $350 million funding round in July and has been on an acquisition roll since, scooping up 3D avatar platform Action Face in June and metaverse company Landvault in July,
Infinite Reality also inked a five-year partnership with Google Cloud in September and acquired a majority stake in gaming media channel Super League earlier this month.
Zappar is an extended reality platform with a product suite enabling brands to create, experience, and manage 3D websites, applications, augmented reality content, and virtual reality content across desktop, mobile, and headsets including the Apple Vision Pro, Magic Leap 2, and Meta Quest 3.
“Joining Infinite Reality’s trailblazing portfolio empowers us to scale our technology and reach a much wider audience of clients and consumers and further expands our U.S. presence,” Zappar co-founder and CEO Caspar Thykier said in a statement. “With synergies across IR’s other subsidiaries, we can leverage our combined expertise to continue shaping the future of extended reality.”
Studio Z is Zappar’s in-house immersive production studio. The company also offers entry-level XR headset Zapbox, priced at $99.99 and shipped with controllers that transform any iPhone 11 or later into a fully-fledged XR headset. And its Zapvision assistive technology enables people who are blind or have low vision to access product information on packaging with a single, accessible QR code.
Investors in Infinite Reality include Steve Aoki, CAA, Courtside VC, Exor, Rudy Gobert, IAC, Imagine Dragons, Lerer Hippeau, Liberty Media, Live Nation, Lux Capital, MGM, RSE Ventures, Terracap, and T-Mobile Ventures.
And Zappar brings longstanding partnerships to the table with global brands including Bayer, Disney, H&M, Legoland, NBCUniversal, Nestlé, Pfizer, Rovio, and Unilever.
Infinite Reality said Zappar will remain headquartered in London, joining its operations in Cairo, Dubai, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and Riyadh.
