The people who hold those titles are the heartbeat of their organizations, leaders whose creativity, customer understanding, and intentional balance of intuition and data push their brands and businesses into new realms, delivering relevant value for the communities with whom they engage.
Today, we are excited to introduce Adweek’s newest podcast, Marketing Vanguard. In each episode, we will spotlight those individuals, focusing on one key idea or decision: why they made it, what it caused, whether it worked, and how it has defined the person not just as a brand but as a business leader.
We also address missteps, poor choices and gambles—as mistakes, of course, often yield the greatest knowledge. In addition, we’ll ask each guest to share the names of the people they rely on daily as well as a recommendation for whom we should interview next.
As Marketing Vanguard will spotlight the people who are driving the industry forward, these will be CMOs, certainly, but guests will also include Chief Growth Officers, Chief Commercial Officers, Chief Digital Officers—anyone who sits at the highest level within organizations overseeing marketing strategy. Sometimes, we will invite CMOs to join with a fellow C-suite peer. And often, we will welcome that unique cohort of CEOs who have come up through the CMO role.

We are thrilled to be kicking off Marketing Vanguard with Marc Speichert, the first Chief Commercial Officer at Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. With a career path that has included roles at L’Oreal, Google and most recently, GSK Consumer Healthcare, where he served as Global Chief Digital Officer, Speichert shares his perspective on the necessity of empathy, his enthusiasm for diving into and often creating new roles, and how delivering unscripted and unexpected acts of value creates “electric” experiences for Four Seasons’ guests.
