Meet Ami Werner: Head of Strategy, Bulletproof New York
We’re proud to announce, that for the second year, Shillington is partnering with Bulletproof for our 2022 Diversity in Design Full Scholarship & Industry Mentorship opportunities—providing a career-changing opportunity to aspiring designers from underrepresented groups.
Want to know what Bulletproof is looking for in New York City? Read on to hear from Ami Werner, Head of Strategy at Bulletproof New York.
What does Diversity in Design mean to you?
The traditional ways of getting into the design industry has resulted in a lot of ‘same same’ creative. As a strategic brand design agency, our aim is to drive relevance and resonance through our strategy and creative, so Diversity in Design is so important to achieve that.
It means actively bringing in a wider variety of perspectives through different skills, personal and cultural backgrounds, thought processes and more. This diversity helps us all to build inclusive brand experiences that represent and connect with their audiences, as well as inspire and learn from each other in the process.
What are you looking for in an application?
We’re looking for self-motivated individuals with a passion and eye for design in all its shapes and forms. If you loved comics for the visual storytelling, tell us about that! Are you the one who notices new trends, or is known for sharing your feelings when your favorite drink gets a new look? We want to hear all about it in your application.
Dedication and a willingness to learn is a must, and we want to hear your point of view, so don’t be afraid to get stuck in and share your thoughts—it’s a safe space!
What can the winner expect from the five mentorship sessions?
We’ll be able to tailor your session based on what would benefit you most, but in general you can expect tips and advice on how to make an impact during an interview as well as a professional portfolio review and insights on how to tell a compelling story with your portfolio garnered from years (and years) of portfolio reviews. We’ll take you through a ‘Crit Wall Survival 101’—a session on how to present a strong rationale and narrative for your design ideas. We’ll also cover the magic of creative tension—our thoughts on how strategy & creative build better together and finally, a studio tour with a meet & greet with the Bulletproof team. We’ll be on hand to answer any questions you have at any point, big or small.
Anything else you’d like to share?
There is no right way to get into design!
