PGA Tour is using augmented reality technology to enhance attendees’ experience during some of golf’s biggest events.
The PGA Tour Augmented Reality Experience presented by Mastercard is available in the PGA Tour application on iOS devices. During supported PGA Tour events, the experience lets event attendees view AR shot trails for every competing player, as well as view information like a shot’s speed and apex through augmented reality. The experience also allows fans to compare multiple shots, replay previous shots and take pictures that can be shared on social media.
After debuting in March, this AR technology will be available during six more events in 2023, ending with the Tour Championship in August:
- The Memorial Tournament Presented by Workday – June 1-4
- Travelers Championship – June 22-25
- Rocket Mortgage Classic – June 29-July 2
- FedEx St Jude Championship – August 10-13
- BMW Championship – August 17-20
- TOUR Championship – August 24-27
The PGA Tour website reads: “The PGA Tour’s Augmented Reality Experience presented by Mastercard offers fans one of the most exciting and unique on-course experiences in golf. This cutting-edge technology was fully integrated into the PGA Tour app back in March for The Players Championship and consists of 12 Tour events this year, including all three FedExCup Playoff events ending with the Tour Championship.”
