Retail media is trying to get bigger. This week brought a wave of moves spanning AI-powered shopping, Amazon’s partnership with OpenAI, Walmart’s broader advertising ambitions, and new in-store screens.
1. Amazon cozies up to OpenAI
Amazon is OpenAI’s newest partner to sell ChatGPT ads.
The ecommerce giant’s partnership with ChatGPT will allow advertisers to buy ads within the AI answer engine through Amazon’s demand-side platform. Amazon Ads sales reps will help brands with bidding strategies and “context hints” that determine what content ads appear next to, but OpenAI’s ad system ultimately controls which ads are delivered on its platform.
