Revolving Door Roundup: Terry Moran Joins Substack After ABC News Dismissal

New to Substack: Terry Moran, ABC News’ former senior national correspondent is the latest TV personality to make the move to Substack. Moran announced his new gig on social media, saying: “I am going to be reporting and interviewing, and just sharing with you and hoping to hear from you as well.”

Moran provided no timetable for when he would start posting on Substack. On Tuesday, ABC News announced that his contract would not be renewed following his weekend suspension for a social media post that criticized President Donald Trump and Stephen Miller.

Streaming switch: Sticking with ABC News, the network announced that Denise Rehrig will be the new executive producer of ABC News Live’s Prime with Linsey Davis. Reporting to Seni Tienabeso, vice president of ABC News Live and Specialized Units, Rehrig will oversee all aspects of the evening newscast, from overall editorial direction to story development, and day-to-day production. Rehrig returns to ABC News after her stint as co-executive producer of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS.

Versant staffs up: Versant is continuing to build out its senior leadership team as it prepares to spin off from the NBCUniversal family. The company announced several new additions to its executive ranks, including Tom Clendenin, who has been appointed chief marketing officer for CNBC and MSNBC, and Brian Carovillano, who will serve as senior vice president, standards & editorial partnerships for news.

Additionally, is bringing over Claudia Meyer-Samargia from NBC News. She will join the network’s PR team as a communications manager responsible for the day-to-day and long-term press efforts of Morning Joe, Way Too Early, and Know Your Value. Meyer-Samargia will also be responsible for driving communications initiatives for the network’s non-linear portfolio.

Europe bound: NBC News’ Carrie Budoff Brown is returning to Politico, where she will be the digital publication’s executive editor and executive vice president, based in Brussels. Budoff Brown had a four-year tenure at NBC News, most recently serving as its senior vice president, politics.

CNN announcements: CNN announced that it is promoting Matt Egan to senior reporter. He has been with the network since 2014, most recently as a reporter and lead writer for CNN Business.

CNN also announced that Guy Griggs is joining the network as its new svp of ad sales and client partnerships. Most recently with the New York Times, Griggs will be responsible for Warner Bros. Discovery’s sales portfolio for all news products and collaborate closely with editorial, product, and executive leadership teams as well as CNN chairman and CEO Mark Thompson. He will report to WBD’s presidents of U.S. ad sales, Ryan Gould and Bobby Voltaggio, and be part of their senior leadership team. 

Finally, CNN announced that Alberto Riva is combing aboard as a senior money editor at CNN Underscored. Riva was previously the editor at Upgraded Points and has also held senior roles at Forbes Marketplace International, The Points Guy, Vice, and the International Business Times.
