Ticker: CBS News Tweaks Format of CBS Evening News

Top of the Ticker: As it nears its first month anniversary, CBS Evening News is making minor adjustments to its format. The evening broadcast, helmed by John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois, has seen three straight weeks of declines in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo since its January debut. The show initially favored long-form pieces on crucial stories, similar to the style seen on 60 Minutes, instead of leading off with the day’s top story. However, in an apparent recent tweak, the latest editions of the show have started with a focus on the day’s headlines before delving into the longer pieces.
An insider noted the show may change as it matures but reiterated that “CBS News is committed to the show and franchise,” with the network making programming investments, including expanding CBS Evening News+ to one hour.
