Week of April 7 Morning News Ratings: Today Celebrates 87 Weeks at the Top of the Demo

ABC News’ Good Morning America and NBC News’ Today continued to split first place in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of April 7.
It’s worth noting that Today’s reign at the top of the advertiser-coveted demo has now stretched to 87 consecutive weeks. NBC News says it’s the morning show’s best streak in over five years.
However, none of the three broadcast AM shows saw any week-to-week gains in either of the measured categories. Today earned the distinction of being the only show not to see declines in both total viewers and the demo, staying flat in the former category compared to the week prior.
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.732 million total viewers and fell below the 500,000 viewer mark in the demo with 493,000 viewers. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show was down by -2% in total viewers and -5% in the demo. Looking at its performance alongside the same week in 2024 (the week of April 8), GMA was down 4% in the former category and -8% in the latter.
Today was No. 2 in total viewers and remained first in the demo with 2.602 million and 619,000 viewers, respectively. Week-to-week the morning show was flat in the former category and dipped -1% in the latter. Year-to-year, Today was down -7% in total viewers and -9% in the demo.
CBS Mornings had 1.834 million total viewers and 317,000 A25-54 viewers. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show dropped a respective -7% and -8% in those measured categories. Year-to-year, CBS Mornings was down -17% in total viewers and -33% in the demo.
