Draggan Mihailovich has been named executive editor of CBS News’ Sunday newsmagazine show, 60 Minutes.
Mihailovich fills the role vacated by Tanya Simon, who in July was named executive producer of the broadcast. He previously served as a 60 Minutes producer, having been part of the award-winning show since joining in 1998.
“Draggan is a first-rate journalist and storyteller whose pieces have been among the most memorable to air on 60 Minutes since he joined the broadcast nearly three decades ago,” said Simon, who announced Mihailovich’s appointment on Aug. 21. “Whether he’s producing investigations, features, or profiles of legendary athletes, he thinks big and has the highest standards. I can’t think of a better partner.”
“This is the honor of my career. I’ve had the privilege to work with many legends inside 60 Minutes, and it means a great deal to me to help usher in a new era of the broadcast under Tanya,” Mihailovich added.
60 Minutes aims to revert to its original role of reporting on major news stories, rather than being part of the news itself, as it was earlier this year when it became embroiled in discussions about Paramount Global’s acquisition by Skydance Media.
This commotion led to the departure of former executive producer Bill Owens, who cited a loss of journalistic independence as the reason for his sudden exit.
Despite this, 60 Minutes still made television history by finishing as the No.1 news program for the 51st consecutive year, averaging 8.32 million viewers.
