For many of us, discussing celebrity news and pop culture is entertaining. The enjoyment of keeping up with the whereabouts of our favorite celebrities is intriguing. Finding others who shared the same interest of entertainment news was difficult before social media today. People like Angie Nwandu wanted to create a space to have real and honest conversations around celebrity culture. This feeling led to the birth of her blog The Shade Room.

Nwandu says the purpose of The Shade Room was purely entertainment when she first started it. She wanted a space to discuss her true feelings about celebrity news. Nwandu states how when people start to share honest feelings about things Hollywood starlets do, it can be misconstrued as “shade.” This was her moment to rewrite the narrative. The Shade Room is a community for people to express their true feelings. Over time, the platform grew where it shared more than just gossip, but community news and other positivity.

In this episode of Young Influentials, Adweek digital editor and host Colin Daniels sits down with Nwandu to discuss her love of pop culture and what’s next for the media company.
