The second week of the reimagined CBS Evening News continued to see audience drop-offs in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo.
Obviously, it’s a marathon and not a sprint for the evening news broadcast, which needs time for existing viewers to adjust to its new format. Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson are co-anchoring the newscast, which features unique differences in its story rundown and promotion.
Meanwhile, a relatively slow news cycle saw all three newscasts lose total viewers for the week of Feb. 3. ABC World News Tonight with David Muir was the only evening broadcast to register week-to-week gains among the A25-54 demo.
Note: The weekly average of CBS Evening News is based on four days (Monday – Thursday). Friday’s (2/7/2025) broadcast was retitled to CBS Evening Nws. This broadcast is excluded from the weekly and season averages.
WNT averaged 8.194 million total viewers and 1.172 A25-54 viewers for the week. Compared to the previous week it was down -1% in the former category, but up +3% in the latter. Looking at its performance alongside the same week in 2024 (the week of Feb. 5), WNT was up +1% in total viewers and +7% in the demo.
NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt finished in second place in both measured categories with 6.709 million total viewers and 1.003 million A25-54 viewers. Week-to-week, the newscast declined -3% in total viewers and -8% in the demo. Year-to-year, Nightly News declined -1% in both measured categories.
CBS Evening News finished the week 4.552 million total viewers and 666,000 A25-54 viewers for week-to-week declines of -5% and -3%, respectively. Compared to 2024, it was down -9% in total viewers and -7% in the demo.
