Melvin Robert will join Los Angeles Nexstar owned station KTLA as entertainment anchor and reporter the week of March 17.

Robert will fill the empty slot left by the late Sam Rubin, who died last May.

Robert was most recently the senior correspondent and weekend co-host of EXTRA and anchor of Good Day LA for Fox owned KTTV.

“I am overjoyed and humbled to join the KTLA 5 family,” said Robert. “This show carries such an iconic legacy, and I can’t wait to collaborate with so many people who I love, respect and admire. I believe so deeply in the power of connection and the transformative power that it holds to unite us all. That’s what morning television is all about, and that’s what the arts are all about, pulling us all together and giving us insight into our shared humanity. I can’t wait to start each and every morning with our Southern California viewers, and I am committed to earning their trust.”

He is a native of Southern California, born and raised in Inglewood, and started his career as an intern at KTLA before his senior year at Loyola High School in 2000. He then returned to the station as a regular Culture/Lifestyle contributor from 2016 to 2018.

Robert will deliver daily entertainment and pop culture segments to KTLA Morning News, co-host the station’s red-carpet specials, and co-host various special productions while contributing to community-oriented segments and specials throughout the year.

“I am thrilled to welcome Melvin to the KTLA Morning News and our Entertainment team,” said Erica Hill-Rodriguez, KTLA news director. “We can’t wait for our viewers to start their mornings with his insight into the world of entertainment and to experience the love he has for the community that has been his lifelong home.”

“Melvin has a uniquely LA story – his love for this city and the fact that he got his start at KTLA makes it feel like he’s coming home,” said Janene Drafs, vice president and general manager of KTLA.
