Veteran WABC anchor Bill Ritter is stepping away from the nightside anchor desk at the New York ABC owned station.
“After more than 25 years anchoring Eyewitness News at 11, Bill Ritter is handing his 11 p.m. seat to Eyewitness News anchor Mike Marza,” the station posted on social media. “But fear not, Bill will continue anchoring the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts, in addition to Up Close.”
Ritter recently turned 75. He’s been at WABC since June 1998, anchoring weekends while working full time Monday through Friday for ABC News and 20/20 as a correspondent.
He started took over for Bill Beutel as anchor of the 11 p.m. newscast on Eyewitness News in October, 1999. He added the 6 p.m. newscast in February 2001.
Marza joined WABC from KSHB in Kansas City in 2019.
