Bill Belichick Criticizes CBS Sunday Morning Profile

A CBS News Sunday profile of Bill Belichick has led to a back-and-forth between the former NFL coach and CBS News.

Belichick, 73, is doing the media rounds promoting his new memoir The Art of Winning and sat with CBS Mornings co-host Tony Dokoupil. Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, was also observing the interview in the wings.

During their conversation, Hudson interjected when Dokoupil asked Belichick how the couple met. “We’re not talking about this,” she said.

That moment instantly went viral, generating less-than-positive buzz for Belichick.

On Wednesday, Belichick released a statement saying that he informed CBS Sunday Morning that he had “preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book.” Belichick also claimed the profile was “selectively edited” to create a “false narrative” about Hudson trying to control the conversation, emphasizing that she only “stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion.”

CBS News later released its own statement pushing back against those allegations. “When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,” the statement reads. “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”

During the CBS Sunday Morning piece, Belichick also spoke about his time as the head coach of the New England Patriots, and how his time there ended.
