One Friday in late February, at the end of their workday, the roughly 350 U.S. employees at Technicolor’s legendary post-production house The Mill learned by email that their jobs could be gone by Monday.
The note was a WARN notice sent from a corporate Technicolor account announcing the entire company would likely shutter. It triggered a frenzy of confusion.
“I’m looking at my watch like, okay, we’ve got an hour,” a former Mill director, speaking anonymously, told ADWEEK.
Some employees believed the email was a hoax.
Over the weekend, there was some cryptic communication from the Mill’s U.S. managers telling some employees that they were working on something, and more updates would follow.
