Earlier in the year, Shillington London were approached with an opportunity we couldn’t turn down: H&M, the global fashion powerhouse, wanted recent Shillington London graduates to design posters for the exterior of their new shop on London’s Oxford Street.
To celebrate the younger look & feel of their new store store, H&M wanted our most recent graduates’ artwork to be featured on the shopfront to act as a canvas to celebrate youth creativity in the heart of London.
Working with Shoreditch-based design agency The Midnight Club, Shillington reached out to our most recent London graduates to design their interpretation of ‘Break Through’. With a week to submit our graduates truly got to work and we were overwhelmed by the response. We had illustrations, type-based designs and so much more.
Unfortunately 2020 then struck us with a blow and shops, offices and practically the entire country was put on lockdown—which meant that the whole project had it’s brakes slammed on.
Fast forward to June and the country—and Oxford Street—are opening again. With plans to re-open the new H&M store on 25 June, install went ahead on Friday 12 June.
19 graduates, who graduated from Shillington London in the last three years, currently have their designs up on one of the busiest shopping streets in the world. Huge congratulations to Ray Wong, Ama Ugbeye, Fred Trevor, Mason El Hage, Smoo Studio (Anne-Marie Fenwick, Helen Xa-Thomas and Krista Kucheman), Taufiq Zainal, Lucy Shephard, Karin Dehnugara, Boris Faguer, Daisy Durling-Goode, Elena Galbusera, Georgie Sladen, Ina Arens, Matt Johnson, Millie Mensah, Sani Lama and Bal Johal.
You can see their designs on the front of the new H&M shop on Oxford Street until 23 June. But please make sure you’re adhering to government guidance and social distancing measures when you do!
