As America prepares for its 250th birthday, CNN is joining in the celebration with a new docuseries titled This Land.
Premiering Sunday, June 7, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the weekly original series explores how the United States expanded from a fragile experiment along the Atlantic coast into the country it currently is.
Over six episodes, This Land will reveal the extraordinary sacrifices and untold personal accounts that provide a new angle to America’s history.
“At its core, This Land is about connection between past and present,” said Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent, CNN Originals, and creative development for CNN Worldwide. “It brings history to life through the voices of those still connected to it, making these stories feel urgent, personal, and very much alive.”
Areas visited in This Land include the sweeping impact of the Louisiana Purchase, the perilous push west to California, the ripple effects of the Lewis and Clark expedition, the fight over Texas and the shifting U.S.-Mexico border, the high-stakes gamble to acquire Alaska, and the rise of New York into a global powerhouse.
The series will include firsthand perspectives from descendants of key figures, including explorers and politicians, as well as Indigenous leaders and immigrant laborers.
Produced by October Films, the series will air two episodes weekly on Sundays at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET/PT on CNN. Episodes will be available to stream the next day at CNN.com/watch and on the CNN app.
