The Dell UltraSharp 27 4K PremierColor monitor could be everything a designer or artist needs from a display.

Colour calibration is one of those tasks that can be critical to what you do, but you never get round to doing – and usually put off even when your calibration software is bugging you to run it again. Dell’s latest UP2720Q display for creative pros does the work for you, popping up a built in sensor at scheduled times (eg before you get to the studio) or when you want it to.

We’ve seen self-calibrating monitors before, including the Eizo CG277 and HP DreamColor Z27 G2, but Dell’s is the first to have a 4K resolution and Thunderbolt 3 ports.

The 4K display is highly colour accurate, says Dell, capable of outputting 100% of the Adobe RGB colour gamut, 98% of DCI-P3 and 80% of BT2020.

The UP2720Q’s two Thunderbolt 3 ports allow you to use the monitor to charge your laptop – assuming you have a suitable model such as Dell’s own XPS 15, or Apple’s MacBook Pro. You only need a single Thunderbolt cable as it also carries video and lets your laptop access the screen’s USB ports. You could also use the other Thunderbolt port to daisychain another 

For other users there’s a DisplayPort and two HDMI ports.

As a professional level monitor, the UP2720Q ships with a hood.

The UltraSharp 27 4K PremierColor was announced at the Adobe Max conference, where Photoshop for iPad, Illustrator for iPad and Creative Cloud 2020 also launched. The monitor will ship on Jan 15 2020 for US$1,999.99. UK pricing has yet to be announced.
