What does the next 20 years of Mad Money look like?

Cramer: In terms of the medium, what’s going to be able to happen is that you’re going to be able to figure out how to watch TV only for what you care about. If you own stock in Microsoft, and all you want to hear about is Microsoft, you’ll be able to follow anyone that talks about it. It’s going to be personalized news, and a lot more siloed, which I don’t necessarily know is a good thing. I think it’s important that you try to hit a lot of stocks, and that you try to be rigorous about them.

Gilgan: For me, it’s about the mission. As long as we have 100 people calling in each night waiting to hear what Jim has to say, then we’ll be here for them. We have this incredible connection with people, and a grassroots research department that listens to what our viewers are thinking.

As a regular viewer of Last Week Tonight, I do have to ask you both how you feel about being one of John Oliver’s favorite targets.

Gilgan: So Jim always talks about the fact that his wife [Lisa Cadette Detwiler] loves the Baconator at Wendy’s…

Cramer: Which is true! She loves bacon.

Gilgan: A little while ago, there was this Last Week Tonight segment that was all about that.

Cramer: My trainer mentioned it to me! He was like, “Did you watch John Oliver the other night? It was about Lisa and the Baconator and how often you talk about it.” I panicked and said she hadn’t seen it yet. The next day, Lisa asked me, “Did you say something about me on the job?” I told her she could look it up on YouTube. She called me right back and said, “That was not funny—it was very hurtful.” I thought she was joking, but she wasn’t. So I said, “I’m so sorry.”

To this day she’s resentful. We went to Wendy’s last week and she said, “I am deliberately going to have the double cheeseburger without the bacon so that you don’t make fun of it.” I took a picture of her eating it, and she told me, “If you tweet that, I will kill you.” So I did not tweet it. [Laughs]

Gilgan: It’s just a reminder that you need to have a very thick skin and a very good sense of humor to work on this show. Luckily, Jim and I have that. Whether it’s South Park or The Simpsons, we’ve been put through the wringer. There’s an element of it that’s in good fun. Not always! But on most days.
