Adan Manzano, the Kansas City reporter who died while covering the Super Bowl, may have been drugged before his death, according to Kenner police.
Danette Colbert of Slidell, Louisiana was arrested by Kenner police on Friday, February 7. She is currently facing fraud and theft related charges.
Manzano was covering his third Super Bowl for Telemundo and Tico Sports when he was found dead in his hotel room last week.
Colbert’s criminal history includes allegations of drugging men to steal from them. Toxicology results will take several weeks to become available. Police have also been contacted by people claiming to be victims or reporting suspicious deaths under similar circumstances since Colbert’s arrest.
Manzano’s wife, Ashleigh Boyd, who was a teacher for the Topeka Public Schools District died last year in a car crash. His 2-year-old daughter is in the care of his family.
Manzano’s family set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for his funeral and to honor him.
“Adan was a kind, loving, and hardworking person who touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity,” the Manzano Aguilar family said. “As we navigate this painful time, we want to give Adan the farewell he deserves, but we need your support to make it possible. We are humbly asking for donations to help cover funeral expenses and provide our family with the means to say goodbye properly.”
