The Japanese philosophy behind Anima 01
A new Japanese vision of the kitchen
At Milan Design Week 2026, Japanese brand MEISDEL introduces Anima 01, a new kitchen concept that blends craftsmanship, technology and philosophy.
The installation appears in the Tortona Design District, one of the most dynamic areas of the design week. Here, MEISDEL reveals a project that redefines the role of the kitchen inside the home.
Anima 01 moves beyond the traditional idea of a kitchen as a purely functional space. Instead, it becomes a place for creativity, interaction and personal expression.
Japanese designer Ito Chiharu developed the concept. Her work explores the relationship between visible and invisible elements, between matter and spirit. In this project, precision engineering meets a more emotional and spiritual dimension of design.
The shape of the kitchen draws inspiration from the elegant silhouette of a grand piano. Soft curves alternate with straight lines, creating a sculptural stainless steel structure. This combination gives the kitchen a sense of movement and visual harmony.
Through this design, MEISDEL transforms a kitchen into both a functional tool and a contemporary design object.
A new concept of “New Luxury” kitchens
MEISDEL positions itself within what it defines as “new luxury”—a design approach that combines artisanal mastery, technological precision and a deeply personalized design process. MEISDEL _company profile
Unlike traditional luxury kitchens, MEISDEL’s creations blur the boundaries between professional and domestic environments. The result is a “borderless” kitchen concept that integrates the performance of restaurant-grade equipment with the warmth and intimacy of a residential space.
At the core of this philosophy lies stainless steel, the material that defines MEISDEL’s identity. The company uses high-quality Japanese stainless steel, known for its durability, hygienic properties and distinctive aesthetic qualities.
Every component of the kitchen is meticulously designed and manufactured down to the millimeter. In many cases, more than one hundred individual stainless steel elements are shaped, welded and polished by master craftsmen to achieve a seamless and harmonious final structure. The process requires not only technical expertise but also an extraordinary level of imagination, allowing designers and artisans to transform a single sheet of steel into a complex architectural object.
Craftsmanship, materials and customization
Beyond stainless steel, Anima 01 combines a range of natural materials—including wood, stone and Japanese paper—to create a sophisticated dialogue between industrial precision and organic warmth.
Each MEISDEL kitchen is conceived as a completely bespoke project, developed through close collaboration between the designers and the client. This approach allows the kitchen to become the true architectural heart of the home—an environment where cooking, social interaction and everyday life converge.
The company’s expertise stems from the long industrial heritage of Tanico, a Japanese manufacturer founded in 1946 and internationally recognized for producing professional stainless steel equipment for the hospitality industry.
From this background, MEISDEL inherited both advanced manufacturing techniques and a culture of uncompromising craftsmanship.
With Anima 01, MEISDEL invites visitors of Milan Design Week to experience a kitchen that transcends its traditional role. It becomes an object of contemplation, a space for creativity, and a reflection of the personality of those who inhabit it. In this sense, the kitchen evolves into something more than a tool—it becomes the soul of the home.
