Miami ABC affiliate WPLG is putting its own spin on the station’s loss of the network affiliation after nearly seventy years.

The affiliation will move to WSVN Channel 7, which already carries Fox programming, on August 4, a day which general manager E.R. Bert Medina labeled Independence Day.

“We made a generous offer to ABC, but it became clear the two sides were not going to agree to a new deal,” WPLG CEO and president E.R. Bert Medina told staff at the time.

In an announcement to viewers, Medina laid out his view of what happened and where the station will go in the future.

ABC demanded we pay more, while receiving less value for the investment.

To you, our loyal viewers, I can assure you, the great TV station you’ve known and trusted is about to get even better.

Many TV stations across the country are cutting back on staffing and news programming.

We have done exactly the opposite. We are investing in local news, weather and sports, as well as locally produced programming.

Starting Aug. 4, you will be able to watch Local 10 News more than ever.

We will be live weekdays from 4:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., noon to 1 p.m., and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

We will have South Florida’s only 9 p.m. newscast and Local 10 News will also air at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.

On the weekends, we will air news from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Sports Saturday and Sunday will air live at 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Of course, “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” will continue to air at 7 p.m. and “Live with Kelly and Mark” will air at 11 a.m.
