MSNBC is toasting a digital milestone, finishing first among the U.S. news networks on YouTube and TikTok.
According to data courtesy of YouTube Studio Analytics, MSNBC saw 472 million views through March 30, pulling ahead of Fox News, which had 404 million; CNN with 228 million; ABC News with 120 million; CBS News, 59.5 million; and NewsNation with 44.1 million.
MSNBC’s 10 p.m. ET show The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell was the network’s top performer on YouTube, with 8.5 million views for a video featuring O’Donnell talking about the Trump administration’s reversal of Canadian tariffs.
That video outranked The Rachel Maddow Show, which saw its top video amass at 4.8 million views.
“MSNBC’s success on YouTube comes down to our authentic content,” Brad Gold, MSNBC’s executive producer of content strategy and development said in a statement. “Our hosts and producers have made YouTube, TikTok, and other digital platforms a top priority, not a side project.”
“The results are in the numbers: audiences are showing up by the hundreds of millions to engage with us,” Gold added. “As more and more people add these platforms to their daily news routines, we are going to continue to invest in these spaces to amplify our brand and meet viewers where they are.”
Over on TikTok, MSNBC bested its rivals with 585 million views through March 29, according to data provided by ListenFirst. It was followed by Fox News, which had 499 million views; CBS News, with 483 million; CNN, with 374 million; ABC News, with 324 million views; and NewsNation, with 30 million views.
The daytime news program MSNBC Reports was the most-viewed product on TikTok, with a report on Colorado teachers protesting education cuts gathering 10.9 million views through March 30.
The top MSNBC primetime performer on TikTok was All In with Chris Hayes, who saw 9.2 million views for a video of a Tufts student’s arrest by federal immigration officers.
Digital viewership is a new battle arena for the news networks as they continue to wrestle with declining linear ratings. Broadcast and cable news outlets are upping their investments and focusing more on their digital products, including mobile devices.
Sources of measurement for digital ratings are also varied. For example, Fox reports that Comscore metrics places it in most-viewed territory on YouTube for February with 368.4 million views.
