MSNBC’s new programming lineup kicked off on Saturday morning with the relaunch of its morning staple, The Weekend, at 7 a.m. ET. The new iteration features Jonathan Capehart, Eugene Daniels, and Jackie Alemany. “It feels like the first day of school,” Capehart noted on-air.

Alemany’s presence on the show was short-lived, though, as she revealed she would return to maternity leave and rejoin the team in a few months.

During the broadcast, the original Weekend—and now Weeknight—trio of Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders Townsend, and Michael Steele surprised the new crew during a question segment.

Later that evening, The Weekend: Primetime debuted at 6 p.m. ET with Ayman Mohyeldin, Antonia Hylton, Catherine Rampell, and Elise Jordan c-hosting. Mohyeldin said he was excited to work with “dear friends and remarkable journalists.”

MSNBC marked the launch of its new weekend lineup with MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler joining the morning hosts and their guests at a post-show brunch at L’Ardente in Washington, D.C.

“You can have all the ideas you want, but then when you get to see the people, like these three people, get on TV and bring them to life, it’s just an incredible moment,” Kutler said.

Other changes to MSNBC’s weekend lineup include the expansion of Ali Velshi‘s mid-morning program, Velshi, from two to three hours at 10 a.m. ET.

Meanwhile, MSNBC’s new weeknight primetime lineup begins Monday night with the premiere of The Weeknight at 7 p.m. ET.

Monday’s edition will be a two-hour program leading into The Rachel Maddow Show, which returns to its Mondays-only schedule. Tuesday night sees the debut of The Briefing with Jen Psaki at 9 p.m.

All in with Chris Hayes remains in its usual timeslot at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesdays through Fridays.
