Robert Thompson, News Corp.‘s CEO, is having his contract extended by an additional five years.

The media company—which comprises primarily print and digital assets such as The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones, as well as the New York Post and book publisher HarperCollins—announced the extension Sunday, stating that Thompson will continue in his role until June 2030.

He has been in the leadership role with News Corp. since 2013.

In regards to Thompson’s tenure, the company said in a statement that with him at the helm, News Corp. “has undergone significant transformation, with a focus on strategic investments in its core growth pillars—Dow Jones, digital real estate services and book publishing—and delivered its four most profitable years from fiscal 2021 to 2024, with continued strong performance in fiscal 2025.”

Thompson has notably been spearheading the march into artificial intelligence, having signed landmark agreements where News Corp. receives compensation for licensing its intellectual property to major technology platforms, including OpenAI.

News Corp. chair Lachlan Murdoch said in a statement, “Robert has been instrumental in News Corp.’s growth and transformation, and his vision and leadership are extremely important as the company continues to navigate this era of rapid change.”

He added, “Robert has created exceptional shareholder value, orchestrated a meaningful transformation of our asset base, and made strategic investments in growth drivers like Dow Jones, digital real estate services, and book publishing. He is a crucial voice in the fight for publishers and journalists in the digital age and a strong advocate for intellectual property rights. I look forward to his continued leadership.”
