Switching to local news: Former CNN executive producer Javier Morgado announced that he is joining the Tegna television group as its vice president of content. According to Morgado, he will be overseeing “its television stations in the northeast and leading morning news strategy across the company’s 64 stations.”
While at CNN, Morgado was the executive producer of the former afternoon news program, At This Hour, from April 2021 to December 2022, when he departed the network. Before that, he spent seven years as the executive producer of CNN’s former morning news show, New Day. He joined the network in 2011 as a senior broadcast producer and prior to that spent more than a decade at NBC News, first at Miami’s WTVJ and lastly as the supervising broadcast producer for NBC’s Today.
Morgado joins Tegna at a time when the local TV station owner has entered into a definitive agreement with Nexstar, which sees Tegna being bought out in a cash transaction valued at $6.2 billion.
FAST morning show: Meanwhile, Morgado’s former CNN morning anchors Alisyn Camerota and Dave Briggs, alongside Jim Rosenfield, will be part of a new morning show, Connecting America, debuting Monday, August 25, from 7 to 9 a.m. ET, on USA Today’s free-ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels and Connecting America’s YouTube Channel.
USA Today’s morning show is billed as a news, information, and lifestyle program designed to serve a wide variety of communities across the nation by showcasing divergent points of view on current events while embracing civil conversation. Camerota left CNN in December 2024, and Briggs left in 2019.
