An editorial management shake-up is underway at CNBC, with David Cho joining the network as editor in chief.
Cho will oversee all CNBC editorial content, ensuring cohesion of talent and reporting across platforms. His appointment comes as Jay Yarow, CNBC’s senior vice president and executive editor, and senior vp of business newsgathering Dan Colarusso will depart the business network as part of the leadership shake-up.
His appointment comes as CNBC, alongside MSNBC, prepares to become part of Versant, after being spun off from the NBCUniversal News Group and the rest of the Comcast empire.
“David’s appointment as editor in chief marks an important evolution for CNBC as we unify editorial efforts across every platform,” said KC Sullivan, president of CNBC, in a statement. “With his deep expertise in business journalism and a strong track record as a strategic leader, David is uniquely positioned to guide our newsroom into the future. Under his leadership, we’ll continue to elevate the trust and clarity that define CNBC’s essential content—meeting our audience wherever they are with the authority and depth they expect.”
“Joining CNBC is an incredible opportunity to help shape the future of a brand that stands at the forefront of business journalism,” Cho added. “This role offers the chance to deepen our connection with audiences across every platform, while building on the trust and excellence that define CNBC. I’m excited to collaborate with the incredibly talented team to deliver smart, essential journalism that meets the urgency and complexity of today’s world.”
Cho was previously editor in chief at Barron’s and head of editorial content for Dow Jones Wealth and Investing. Prior to that, he was business editor of The Washington Post, and he also worked at The Star-Ledger (Newark, N.J.), The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Korea Herald.
Earlier this week, CNBC announced promotions for Mary Duffy and Kasey O’Brien.
Duffy becomes vp and senior executive producer of strategic initiatives and talent development. In this role, she will incubate and execute various new brand extensions and offerings, and continue to develop CNBC’s talent, as well as oversee CNBC’s contributor network.
Meanwhile, O’Brien becomes a senior field producer. She was a field producer prior to her new assignment. O’Brien, who joined CNBC in May 2023, previously worked at ESPN and NBC News.
