Regular viewers watching NBC News’ Today were greeted on Monday morning with some unsettling news regarding the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy.

Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones led the 7 a.m. ET hour of Today with the unfortunate news, noting that the elder Guthrie, 84, has been missing from her Arizona home since Saturday night. The home is now being treated as a crime scene. She was last seen around 9:30 p.m. local time.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support,” said Savannah Guthrie in a statement shared with Today. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”

According to Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County, a family member called 911 around noon on Sunday to report that Nancy Guthrie was missing. She was last seen near her residence in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona. He said that the family informed them that she does not have any cognitive issues but has some physical ailments.

The sheriff noted that the scene at the house was “concerning” for them, adding that search and rescue teams had been dispatched during the overnight hours, including volunteers, dogs, border patrol agents, drones, and helicopters.

He said that they’ve “pretty much thrown everything at this as we can,” including detectives from the homicide teams who believe it may be a case of foul play and not a senior wandering off.

Jenna Bush Hager, who personally knows Nancy Guthrie, said during Today’s 10 a.m. ET edition that Savannah’s mom is currently without the medication crucial for her survival.

“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900,” Savannah Guthrie said at the end of her statement.
