Streaming Ratings, Week of August 18: Wednesday Is No. 1 for 3 Weeks

Netflix’s Wednesday achieved some rare air for the week of August 18, remaining at the top of the charts for the third week in a row. It was also the only title in Nielsen’s Top 10 Overall Streaming chart to record more than a billion viewing minutes.

The Jenna Ortega-led series finished the week with 1.129 billion viewing minutes. Only four episodes were available from the current season during this time period, making Wednesday’s first-place domination even more impressive.

According to Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, Netflix had the most titles in the chart (five) for the week of August 18. Two of those Netflix titles have shared distribution rights. 

The phenomenon that is KPop Demon Hunters continues its amazing run, moving up to second place from third with 930 million viewing minutes. The Netflix animated film recorded its sixth consecutive week with more than 900 million viewing minutes and finished in first place in Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming movies chart for the recorded week.

The Canadian drama Sullivan’s Crossing dropped to third place in the streaming chart, with the Netflix-acquired title finishing with 888 million minutes viewed for the week of August 18. 

Paramount+’s SpongeBob SquarePants is the first non-Netflix title and the second animated title to appear in the chart, as it had 826 million viewing minutes to take the No. 4 position. It was followed by the Hulu and Netflix shared title Grey’s Anatomy, which remained in fifth place with 801 million minutes viewed.

Leading the bottom half of the chart is Disney+’s Bluey, which fell two spots to land at No. 6 with 795 million viewing minutes. Making its debut in the chart in seventh place was the Netflix and Paramount+ shared title Extant, as it recorded 742 million minutes viewed.

HBO Max’s The Big Bang Theory had 683 million viewing minutes, landing at No. 8 for the week of August 18. It was followed by Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, which re-entered the chart in ninth place with 654 million minutes viewed.

Taking the final spot is a Hulu favorite, Bob’s Burgers, finishing the week with 607 million viewing minutes.
