The release of four new episodes ensured Netflix’s Wednesday remained at the top of Nielsen’s Top 10 Overall Streaming chart for the week of Sept. 8.
The Jenna Ortega-led comedy series is enjoying its second consecutive week in first place with 2.069 billion viewing minutes. All eight episodes of Wednesday’s second season accounted for 80% of its total watch time, with the latest release making up 58% of that time.
According to Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, only two titles had more than a billion viewing minutes, both of them belonging to Netflix. The streamer continued to have a strong presence on the chart with six titles, one of which had shared distribution rights.
Landing in second place and making its debut on the chart was Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, which had 1.337 billion minutes viewed. The Netflix drama series was the top title among Black audiences, making up 72% of its viewing audience. In addition, the series was favored by the Adults 35-64 demo, which accounted for 55% of Beauty in Black’s total audience.
Moving up one spot to the No. 3 position was Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, with 917 million minutes viewed. It was followed by Paramount+’s SpongeBob SquarePants, which jumped up five places courtesy of its 868 million viewing minutes for the week. Taking fifth place was the docuseries aka Charlie Sheen, which gave Netflix 849 million viewed minutes in its first appearance on the chart.
The bottom half of the chart was comprised of Disney+’s Bluey, which dropped by one spot with 823 million viewing minutes. It was followed by Netflix’s Orphan Black with 773 million minutes viewed for the week of Sept. 8.
The Hulu and Netflix shared title, Grey’s Anatomy, landed in eighth place with 669 million viewing minutes. HBO Max’s The Big Bang Theory occupied the No. 9 position with 596 million minutes viewed.
The final spot belonged to Hulu’s Bob’s Burgers, which cooked up 591 million viewing minutes for the concluded week.
