Programming Update: Starting Monday, November 17, NewsNation will rename its dayside programming news block, which runs from 9 a.m. ET to 6 p.m. ET from NewsNation Now to NewsNation Live. The name change will also affect its weekend programming blocks.
New hire: CNBC has named Elsa Ohlen its new companies reporter. Based in London, she will cover European industries and companies, reporting on earnings, strategy shifts, leadership changes, and industry trends.
In Memoriam: The broadcast journalism world is mourning the loss of former ABC News and NBC News correspondent Jim Avila, who passed away at 70. In a note to staff obtained by TVNewser, ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic said Avila passed after a long illness, adding that he was a “gifted journalist and a generous colleague.” Avila retired from ABC News in 2021, but he didn’t stay out of work for too long, joining San Diego ABC affiliate KGTV as a senior investigative reporter. During his tenure at ABC News, Avila held various positions, including senior law and justice correspondent and 20/20 correspondent. He joined the network from NBC News in 2004, where he was a national correspondent at NBC Nightly News.
So sorry to hear about the passing of veteran ABC News journalist Jim Avila. We covered Obama together. But Jim was more than a competitor. He was a friend. Jim even arranged this sailing trip during one of our assignments together. He often talked about how much he loved his family. RIP Jim.
