Cross-platform distribution led to another record-breaking viewership event in February. This year’s Super Bowl Sunday, which culminated in the Philadelphia Eagles winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy, saw Fox Sports earn 127.7 million viewers, with some watching Super Bowl LIX on Fox’s free ad-supported streaming service, Tubi.

According to Nielsen’s Media Distributor Gauge, Super Bowl Sunday recorded more than 110 billion viewing minutes, becoming one of the most heavily viewed television days yet. This year’s Super Bowl only ranks behind last year’s Super Bowl in terms of viewing minutes watched for a single day, with the 2024 event pulling ahead by 500 million minutes.

Tubi’s crisp stream of the big game paid off, garnering 2% of total streaming consumption for February. This was a +0.3% improvement from its January performance, which stood at 1.7%.

The streaming segment once again led the way in viewing consumption, improving its January performance by +0.9% to land at 43.5%. Streaming’s consumption gains came at the cost of the linear categories, with the broadcast consumption down by -1.3% to 21.2% and the cable segment falling by -1.2% to 24.4% compared to January’s performance.

When combined, broadcast and cable (44.4%) can still claim first place as their combined viewing consumption performed better than streaming (43.5%), pulling ahead by just +0.9%.

YouTube was the dominant player in the streaming category, with 11.6% of all viewing. It improved by +0.8% from its January performance (10.8%).

Netflix followed next with 8.2% of all total streaming consumption in February (down -0.4% from January). The streamer had the most streamed title for the month, with The Night Agent capturing 6 billion viewing minutes.

After Netflix, the other streaming services were Disney+ with 4.8% (up +0.1%), Prime Video 3.5% (down -0.2%), Roku Channel 2.1% (flat), and then Tubi with 2.0%. After the Fox streamer, Peacock had 1.5% (up +0.1%), Paramount Plus with 1.3% (down -0.1%), Max with 1.2% (down -0.1%), and finally Pluto with 1.0 (up +0.1%).
