
CBS Evening News was the only evening newscast to see positive traction in either total viewers or the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of April 14. As a cherry on top, it was the only one of the three evening news broadcasts to enjoy double-digit growth in the demo relative to the week prior.
The Good Friday-shortened week was not as kind to ABC World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News, as they each lost viewers in both measured categories compared to the previous week.
Note: The weekly averages of ABC World News, NBC Nightly News, and CBS Evening News are based on four days (Monday-Thursday). Friday’s (04/18/25) broadcast was retitled due to the Good Friday holiday. These broadcasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages.
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 7.172 million total viewers and 959,000 A25-54 viewers. Compared to the previous week it dropped -4% in the former category and -6% in the latter. Looking at its performance alongside the same week in 2024 (the week of April 15), WNT was down -5% in total viewers and -7% in the demo.
NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt finished in second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 5.908 million total viewers and 816,000 demo viewers. Week-to-week, Nightly News was down a respective -3% and -4% in those measured categories. (Notable: The Thursday newscast, anchored by Tom Llamas, topped WNT in the demo by 19,000 viewers.) Year-to-year, Nightly News was down -1% in total viewers and remained flat in the demo.
CBS Evening News had 3.738 million total viewers and 544,000 viewers in the demo for a flat result in the former category and double-digit growth of +11% in the latter. Compared to 2024, it was down -15% in total viewers and -16% in the demo.
