
There was no Fourth of July hangover, as all three evening newscasts rebounded, with none of them experiencing any viewership declines in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of July 7.
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight averaged 7.252 million total viewers and 989,000 Adults 25-54 demo viewers for the week of July 7. It experienced a gain of +1% in total viewers and remained flat in the demo compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (the week beginning July 8), WNT was up +5% in total viewers and +9% in the demo—the only evening newscast to grow year-to-year across the board.
NBC Nightly News finished in second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 5.616 million and 856,000 viewers, respectively. The broadcast was up +2% in total viewers and +12% in the A25-54 demo. When comparing its performance to the same week a year ago, Nightly News was down in total viewers by -3% but had double-digit growth of +12% in the demo.
CBS Evening News had 3.874 million total viewers and 502,000 viewers in the demo for the week of July 7. The broadcast was up +4% in total viewers and +8% in the demo compared to the week prior. Its year-ago week numbers were down by -7% in total viewers and -11% in the demo.
