
All three evening newscasts recorded lower viewership in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of June 30, with viewers gearing up for the long July 4th Holiday weekend.
Note: The weekly averages of ABC News, NBC News, and CBS News are based on different periods: ABC News’ average is based on three days (Monday – Wednesday), while NBC News’ and CBS News’ averages are based on four days (Monday – Thursday). Thursday’s (07/03/25) World News Tonight broadcast was retitled to WNT-ABC. All three broadcasts were coded as specials due to the July 4th holiday on Friday (07/04/2025). These broadcasts were excluded from the weekly and season averages.
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 7.177 million total viewers and 989,000 Adults 25-54 demo viewers for the week of June 30. It experienced losses of -2% in total viewers and -5% in the A25-54 demo compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (the week beginning July 1), WNT was down -1% in total viewers and remained flat in the demo.
NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas finished in second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 5.501 million and 767,000 viewers, respectively. The broadcast was down -4% in total viewers and -9% in the A25-54 demo. When comparing its performance to the same week a year ago, Nightly News was up in total viewers by +1% and +7% in the demo—the only broadcast to show year-over-year gains.
CBS Evening News had 3.736 million total viewers and 466,000 viewers in the demo for the week of June 30. The broadcast was down -4% in total viewers and -9% in the demo compared to the week prior. Its year-ago week numbers were down by -14% in total viewers and -24% in the demo.
