A rather busy news week delivered positive results in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for all three evening newscasts for the week of June 9.  

From the rising tension stemming from the ICE arrests on the national front to the tragic airplane crash in India and the growing Middle East crisis in international news, viewers were eager to keep up with the latest developments.

Also, Tom Llamas performed better during his second week as the chief anchor of NBC Nightly News, which is an encouraging sign for NBC.

Note: The weekly average of ABC News is based on three days (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday). Wednesday’s (06/11/25) and Friday’s (06/13/25) broadcasts were retitled to WNT-ABC due to Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals. These broadcasts were excluded from the weekly and season averages.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 7.248 million total viewers for the week of June 9. It saw gains of +4% in total viewers and +10% in the A25-54 demo, which drew 1 million viewers, an increase of almost 100,000 from the previous week. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (the week beginning June 10), WNT was down -1% in total viewers and -2% in the demo. (Only one day was rated due to the NBA and NHL finals taking place that week.)

NBC Nightly News finished in second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 5.663 million total viewers and 844,000 demo viewers. The broadcast was up +4% in total viewers and +9% in the A25-54 demo. When comparing the same week a year ago, Nightly News was down in total viewers by -2% but up +2% in the demo. It was the only newscast with year-to-year gains in either of the measured categories. 

CBS Evening News had 4.159 million total viewers and 547,000 viewers in the demo for the week of June 9. The broadcast was up +7% in total viewers and +6% in the demo compared to the week prior. Its year-ago week numbers were down by -7% in total viewers and -6% in the demo.
