
All three evening news broadcasts experienced viewership declines in the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of September 29.
However, ABC World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News saw week-to-week growth in total viewers, while CBS Evening News fell in both measured categories.
ABC World News Tonight’s demo lead over NBC Nightly News grew to a difference of 69,000 additional viewers, up from the 48,000 viewer difference from the previous week.
Note: The weekly average of ABC News is based on one day (Tuesday). Monday’s (09/29/25) broadcast was retitled to WNT-ABC due to the NFL. Meanwhile, the broadcasts from Wednesday (10/01/2025) and Thursday (10/02/2025) were also retitled to WNT-ABC due to the MLB Playoffs. Friday’s (10/03/2025) broadcast was retitled to WNT-ABC. These broadcasts were excluded from the weekly and season averages.
According to national live + same day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 7.334 million total viewers and 844,000 Adults 25-54 demo viewers for the week of Sept. 29. The evening newscast had gains of +2% in total viewers but fell by -1% in the demo compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (the week beginning Sept. 30), WNT was up by +4% in total viewers but down by -10% in the demo.
The No. 2 broadcast in total viewers and the demo was NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas, averaging 5.8 million and 775,000 viewers, respectively. The broadcast was up by +2% in total viewers but saw a viewership drop of -4% in the A25-54 demo. When comparing its performance to the same week a year ago, Nightly News grew by +2% in total viewers but declined by -5% in the demo.
CBS Evening News had 3.593 million total viewers and 399,000 viewers in the demo for the week. The broadcast experienced losses of -4% in total viewers and -5% in the demo compared to the previous week. Its year-ago week numbers saw the newscast decline by -17% in total viewers and -34% in the demo.
