Week of Sept 8 Morning News Ratings: GMA and CBS Mornings Up Across the Board

A busy news week resulted in ABC News’ Good Morning America and CBS News’ CBS Mornings experiencing week-to-week growth in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of September 8.

On the other hand, NBC News’ Today fell in both measured categories. Its lead over ABC News in the demo shrank to 87,000 viewers. A week after landing in first place in total viewers, Today returned to its No. 2 position during the measured week.

NOTE: GMA was retitled on Thursday (09/11/25) and Friday (09/12/25) to GMA-ABC. Today was retitled to Today-TS on Thursday due to the Charlie Kirk special reports. These retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on three days (Monday-Wednesday), and NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Wednesday and Friday). 

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.677 million total viewers and 489,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of Sept. 8. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show was up in total viewers by +3% and +2% in the demo. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (Sept. 9), GMA was up +5% in total viewers and by +14% in the demo—the only morning show with gains in either of the measured categories in this year-over-year comparison. 

Today was first in the demo with 576,000 viewers and was the No. 2 network in total viewers with 2.544 million viewers for the just-concluded week. The broadcast experienced declines of -2% in total viewers and -7% in the demo compared to the previous week—the only network to fall in both categories. Looking at how it performed during the same week in 2024, Today was down -3% in total viewers and down -13% in the demo.

Finally, CBS Mornings had 1.823 million total viewers and 313,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show was up +2% in total viewers and +1% in the A25-54 demo. During the same period in 2024, CBS Mornings experienced a -9% decline in total viewers and an -18% decline in the demo.
