Week of September 1 Cable News Ratings: CNN Starts the Month With Gains

When looking at these networks’ performance during the same period a year ago:

  • During primetime, Fox News was down by -11% in total viewers and -41% in the A25-54 demo. During total day, the network also fell by -5% in total viewers and -33% in the demo.
  • MSNBC was down -40% in total viewers and -48% in the demo. During total day, the network was down -44% in total viewers and -56% in the demo.
  • In primetime, CNN declined by -32% in total viewers and -50% in the demo. During total day, it saw losses of -26% in total viewers and -35% in the demo.

PROGRAMMING:

Fox News had 14 out of the 15 spots of the most-watched cable news shows of the week, with The Five continuing to lead the way with 3.275 million total viewers at 5 p.m. ET. MSNBC was represented in the chart by Deadline: White House with Nicolle Wallace at 4 p.m. ET, taking the No. 15 position with 1.099 million total viewers.

The Five was also in the No. 1 spot in the Adults 25-54 demo, averaging 279,000 viewers at 5 p.m. ET. Fox News held 14 out of the 15 top spots in the demo, with CNN’s Inside Politics with Dana Bash at 12 p.m. ET taking the No. 15 position with 99,000 demo viewers.
