Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during his publicly livestreamed town hall meeting Thursday that enterprise solution Workplace From Facebook reached 5 million paid users, up from 3 million last October.
Zuckerberg also said the Work Groups feature introduced for Facebook and Messenger From Facebook at the end of that month now has 20 million monthly active users.
With remote work not going away anytime soon due to the coronavirus pandemic, Facebook detailed several new features for Workplace From Facebook with an eye toward the present and the future.
Workplace From Facebook now has Workplace Rooms, a clone of the recently introduced Messenger Rooms, which enables video calls of up to 50 people, with no time limit.
Calls can be created via Workplace Chat, groups, News Feed or the social network’s Portal video-calling devices.
People who don’t work for the company or don’t have Workplace From Facebook accounts can be invited to participate, as well.
Users who create Workplace Rooms can lock them to prevent others from joining, keep them open “for more spontaneous hangouts” or remove participants who should not be on the call. A new link is generated every time a Room is created, and those links are not reusable.
The new Live Producer tool enables Workplace From Facebook users to livestream with better production value, control and interactivity.
Users can schedule live videos, share their screens and use a live question-and-answer feature to let viewers vote.
Automatic captions are available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, and videos in one of those languages will automatically be translated into the other five for employees around the world.
Captions can be edited when the video is done before it becomes available on-demand.
Workplace Live on Portal now has the video-calling device’s artificial-intelligence-powered Smart Camera and Smart Sound features to make video calls more natural and keep subjects perfectly framed.
Facebook said it is adding a way for people to watch Workplace Live on Portal devices, and Workplace calls and videos will be available for bigger screens via Portal TV starting in June.
Finally, Oculus for Business, which debuted in beta last year, is now out of closed beta and generally available.
