MSNBC has announced the premieres of two new weeknight primetime shows. (All times Eastern.)
The Weeknight—featuring the trio of Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez—will debut on May 5 at 7 p.m., airing from 7-9 p.m. on Mondays and 7-8 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays. MSNBC gave TVNewser a first look at a new promo for the panel show.
The Briefing with Jen Psaki will premiere on May 6, airing Tuesdays through Fridays at 9 p.m. That’s also when Rachel Maddow will be wrapping up her five nights a week stint anchoring her eponymous and switching back to a Mondays-only schedule.
Both The Weeknight and The Briefing will be based out of the network’s Washington, D.C. studios. They are part of MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler‘s plan to reinvigorate the primetime lineup and steer it towards a path of full autonomy once its separation from NBCUniversal News Group is complete later this year.
Kutler unveiled MSNBC’s new lineup earlier this year, which also saw changes across its weekday and weekend lineup.
Weekdays will see the MSNBC Reports brand expand to two hours for Ana Cabrera (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), Chris Jansing (12-2 p.m.), and Katy Tur (2-4 p.m.).
Starting May 3, The Weekend franchise will have two three-hour airings on Saturdays and Sundays. Jonathan Capeheart will co-host morning airings at 7 a.m. along with Eugene Daniels and Jackie Alemany.
